Finding a Third Space

Written by Jon Davies

A couple of weeks ago I read an article about the decline of ‘third spaces’ and the importance they hold in people lives. If you aren’t familiar with the concept of a ‘third space’ it’s a term that comes from Ray Oldenburg’s book The Great Good Place and refers to a social environment that’s separate from our two primary environments - work and home.

It’s a space where people can feel a sense of community, acceptance and belonging outside of their usual day-to-day lives. Traditionally this would be a church, pub, cafe, library, etc.

The article was explaining that with the decline in these kinds of places and the time constraints placed upon us as a society that worships long working hours and hustle-culture, more and more people are lacking a third space where they can gain this sense of belonging and how important it is to our mental health.

This got me thinking about how a boudoir photography session can offer some of that same sense of freedom, community and joy that you find in a third place.

a safe space to celebrate yourself

A third place should be a judgment-free zone where everyone feels welcome. Our boudoir studio aims to embody this philosophy by creating a sanctuary for every individual, regardless of size, shape or background. Our clients deserve a space to celebrate their bodies without fear or self-doubt. Boudoir photography offers this unique opportunity for you to explore, accept and love your body, leaving you with a renewed sense of self-confidence.

a community of empowerment

Third places are also characterised by the relationships we form there. One of our goals as a boudoir studio was always to foster a community of empowerment and body positivity. It’s one of the reasons we started our Facebook group, The Vixens of Foxlow www.facebook.com/groups/foxlowladies. We knew that not everyone would be able to come to the studio for a photoshoot, but wanted to create a positive environment where people could support and encourage each other.

By connecting with others who are on a similar journey, our clients often find a shared sense of belonging and understanding. From other clients who share their inspiring stories, to people who have a shoot booked but have yet to come, the Vixens provides a community where everyone feels seen, heard and validated.

an environment of fun and creativity

One of the things that sets a third place apart from home or work is the sense of fun it brings to our lives. A boudoir session offers an opportunity to express yourself through creativity and playfulness. Each session at our boudoir studio is an opportunity to experiment with lingerie, posing and your unique style and interests.

the benefit and transformation

The magic of a third place is the way it leaves us feeling rejuvenated and uplifted. Similarly, boudoir photography sessions offer a transformative experience, helping you to reconnect with your body in a positive way. Many clients have told us over the years how much their confidence has improved and how empowered they feel after their sessions, carrying that positivity into other aspects of their lives.

We would love to invite you to our body positive boudoir studio and to help you to discover a new third place.

Step into the studio and find the sanctuary, community and sense of fun that will leave you feeling more connected to your body and more confident in your own skin. This is a place to celebrate who you are and to embrace a journey of self-love.
