Top Ten High Street Makeup Products from a Makeup Artist’s Kit

As a professional makeup artist, I get asked all the time “what is your favourite makeup brand?”. If I’m honest, I don’t actually have a favourite brand at all!

I personally don’t believe that there is a single makeup brand that can do everything perfectly. I have spent years handpicking products for my kit that are long wearing, suitable for flash photography and suit the majority of people - whether it be that there’s a variety of colours, that it is suitable for most skin types, or that it can be used in more than one way.

So instead of recommending one brand for you, I have put together a list of some of my favourite items that I regularly use at the studio and that you can get hold of easily from the High Street for you to create a beautiful makeup look at home.

1. embryolisse lait-creme concentre

A moisturiser and primer all in one! It is perfect for all skin types and is so lightweight on the skin. It creates the perfect base for makeup to sit nicely on top of it.

2. nyx hd finishing powder

This powder sets makeup into place and is suitable for flash photography, which is great for a night out or special occasion when you are having photographs taken. It comes in a translucent colour which is suitable for most skin colours and tones.

3. charlotte tilbury contour/blush wand

These products are amazing for a quick contour and blush application. They come in a range of different colours for your taste, and blend to the skin seamlessly.

4. benefit cosmetics hoola bronzer

One of my favourite all rounders - a bronzer, contour powder and eye shadow all in one! It now comes in 4 different shades to suit a variety of skin colours and tones too.

5. got2b glued eyebrow gel

This clear gel has a strong hold to tame your brows all day long! It can also be used to tame fly aways on your hair, and to style your edges.

6. kiko water eyeshadows

These eyeshadows are fantastic for quick and easy application! Use wet for stronger pigment and a longer lasting effect, or dry for a subtle shimmer. My favourite shade is 235 which is a beautiful copper tone.

7. urban decay 24/7 glide on eye pencil

The consistency of these pencils give harder lines and are really long wearing. It’s also well suited to the water line or tight line too as it doesn’t smudge. There is a vast range of colours for everyday wear and special occasions!

8. eyelure 3/4 lashes

These false lashes are so easy to apply and great for adding length and definition to the outer eye. Sometimes in photographs, large long lashes can cause the illusion of a dark under eye by creating a shadow, so these lighter ones are a great option to add some drama without overpowering the eye.

9. morphe colour pencils

These lip pencils have a firmer consistency for sharper edges, they are perfect for anyone who finds their lipstick smudges too easily and can be applied over the whole lip for a long lasting finish underneath lipstick.

10. urban decay all nighter setting spray

My favourite setting spray allows your makeup to last all day or night! It is available in different finishes to suit different skin types or styles.

These are just ten of my most used products at the studio, but you can discover more of my favourite makeup items in the product recommendations section of our online course Makeup Made Easy.
