How to love yourself, even if you don’t always like yourself.

When I was young and I did something wrong or angered my Mum she would sometimes say something along the lines of:

“i will always love you…
but i don’t like you very much right now!”

It’s one of those things that has really stuck with me over the years; it’s reassured me that no matter what I do, or how angry she may be, that my Mum’s love is unconditional.

Now I’ve begun to apply that same principle to how I see myself - and I hope you can too.

We often talk at the studio and on our social media about learning to love your body and accepting who you are.

Too many of us become disheartened and give up because there’s some elements of our body, our personality, or our life that we don’t like. For example:

“I don’t like my tummy - so I can’t love myself.”

“I don’t like my fibromyalgia - so I do not love my body.”

“I don’t like my breasts for giving me cancer - so I don’t love me.”

But what if we listen to my Mum for a moment. Suddenly you can say “I don’t like my tummy right now - but I do love my body!”.

Let’s take a moment to think about the people you love - your friends, partner or family. I’m willing to bet there are things you don’t like about every one of them!

Perhaps you don’t like the way your husband slurps his tea… does that mean you do not love him?

Maybe you don’t like the way your best friend always manages to turn any situation into a drama… does that mean you don’t love her?

If your sister has an awful sense of fashion or gets an awful haircut you don’t like… do you no longer love her?

you don’t require perfection in others to love them - so why do you demand it in yourself?

So what if you’ve gained a few pounds or wrinkles or scars?! So what if you’ve made some mistakes?! You are no less deserving of love and respect, and that has to start with yourself.

If you want to celebrate the unique and beautiful person you are - get in touch. Honestly, that’s what our boudoir studio is all about! I cannot guarantee that you’ll like every single photo we take of you, but I will make it my mission for you to totally love the photo album we create together.
